ISLAMIC, Persia (Pre-Seljuq). Saffarids. Khalaf ibn Ahmad (?), third reign, AH 370-393 / AD 981-1003. Dirham (Silver, 26 mm, 3.00 g), citing the Abbasid caliph al-Ta'i' lillah (AH 363-381) as overlord and probably Khalaf ibn Ahmad as Wali al-Dawla ('Friend of the Dynasty' in Kufic), Sirjan in western Kirman, AH 381 = AD 991/2. Album 1421. Apparently unique and unpublished save for its previous auction appearance. Some areas of weakness and with light corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
